Sleep Supports Healthy Weight Loss

Common sense tells us that exercise and eating right help control weight.

But now another factor is becoming more apparent. The amount and quality of sleep you get has a major effect on weight.

The Dr. Jean-Philippe Chaput in Canada researched sleep patterns as they affected weight loss. He found that poor sleep had several negative effects on weight. These included eating late at night.

Obviously, a good night’s sleep doesn’t guarantee weight loss. However poor sleep habits can sabotage your efforts.

You can get the details on the Life Extension web site here.

DHA Helps Attention Deficit Disorder

It is heartbreaking when kids struggle to learn.

In school, this often shows up as difficulty spelling and reading. They might also be hyperactive and restless. The modern label used to describe this problem is ADD or ADHD.

Now research out of Australia and Great Britain show that the Omega-3 fatty acid, DHA can help reverse this problem. They found it was especially helpful in the worst cases of ADHD. Both reading and spelling skills improved. Along with that came improvements in behavior.

If you or someone you love struggles with learning, this article is worth reading.

Health Freedom Alliance has the scoop. You can read about here.

Are Omega 3 Oils Really Super Nutrients?

Recent news headlines seem to indicate that fish oils are not the super health support we thought.

However these reports merit a closer look. As usual, the headlines don’t tell the real story. In fact, Omega-3 fatty acids are important supplements for just about everyone.

In spite of the less than positive press recently, there are thousands of studies showing benefits from fish oil. And the higher someone’s percentage of omega-3 oils, the greater the benefits.

Those benefits include triglycerides, lower blood pressure, lower LDL cholesterol, less inflammation and a lower risk of heart disease. Those with low levels of omega-3s are more likely to be depressed, to commit suicide and have memory loss and brain shrinkage as they age.

Sounds good to me.

You can learn more details about the study and what it really means in the Wall Street Journal article. See it here.

Take Health Guarantees With A Grain Of Salt

Nothing in the world of health is black and white. At best, you can look at trends and probabilities.

Of course if you are like most people, you want as much certainty as possible when it comes to your health. Unfortunately, the best approach comes down to playing the odds.

What this means is that anyone who promises absolute certainty is blowing smoke. There are enough variables in the world of health and healing that there simply can’t be a one-size-fits-all solution to anything.

That doesn’t keep people from hoping there will be such an answer. Everyone seems to want a magic bullet to be healthy.

Health writer and researcher Jon Barron lists 5 types of health experts who tend to speak in absolutes. He also shows why they are often wrong. This list includes:

  1. The Natural Health Community
  2. The Media
  3. The Professional Skeptics
  4. The Politicians
  5. The Medical Community

For an entertaining and informative view about how to spot pie-in-the-sky promises, you can’t do better than read this article. You’ll find it here.

3 Powerful Immunity Teas

Cold and flu season is around the corner.

No doubt you’ve been bombarded with ads telling you to get a flu shot. But many people, health care providers included, don’t want to get the shot.

The good news is that nature offers some helpful alternatives. If you want to support your immune system naturally, there are some powerful herbal teas that can do the job.

Chinese medicine includes herb formulas that act as anti-viral medicine. But they are tricky to get exactly right. The reason is that a cold or flu goes through stages. You need the right formula for each stage.

But there are some simple, natural plants that will help. And they are easy to find and use. In fact, if you like to hike, you can find some of these in the wild. They can be a kind of do-it-yourself immune support.

If you can’t find them in the wild, you can easily find them at an herbal shop or online. Acupuncture.com has the list. The link is here.

All the best to you for your health and happiness,

Dr. Bruce Eichelberger
